BUS LINES, 2007

Yarn, nautical towline, found and pre-made knit and crocheted textiles.

This day long project was part of the “Big Draw” organized by the Drawing Center and River to River Festival. The site was the World Financial Plaza and Wintergarden, New York, NY and site sponsor Arts at Brookfield Properties.

Conceived as a communal drawing in space, the project served various agendas in addition to the BIG Draw’s mission of audience participation in a drawing activity. It also brought together many crafters and event helpers that supported the pre-production.These workers included friends, colleagues and employees from various World Financial Center (Vesey Street property) businesses organized by the Brookfield Properties Arts team. The orange tent in the Wintergarden was constructed for their crafting events, which among other things, produced the “big draw scarf” during the scheduled “knit-in” sessions. In time, and on their own, this group became Arts Brookfield’s “In the Loop: Knitting and Crocheting for Charity.” Still open to the public at large, members of the community can continue to participate.
